2017 DEC Update from DANII Foundation supporting T1d ~ May Your Christmas Sparkle
May Your Christmas Sparkle with moments
of love & laughter.
And may the year ahead be full of happiness & bliss.
Merry Christmas DANII T1D Friends,
Election Promise?
What a year 2017 has been! As we saw in the New Year many were sceptical that we would see CGM implemented, some believing it would be another broken election promise. We had more faith as the Foundation was fortunate enough to be on the CGM implementation committee. We never doubted that the funding would roll out. Something that totally surprised us was that some of our colleagues doubted that the uptake would be so high. Naturally, we were a constant agitator in this space, citing all of our member’s experiences, frustrations and hopes.
CGM for under 21’s announced
By the April 1 launch, we knew it was no joke. DANII’s gift was here and hearing that from Minister Hunt really made all our efforts worth it. Together we achieved a huge feat. Our work is not over however until every t1d has access to life-saving, life-changing technology.
DANII on the road
The Foundation implemented the CGM communications roadshow on behalf of the Department of Health. It was fantastic to meet so many of our supporters. The roadshow gave us a valuable insight into the gaps in service delivery and formed part of DANII’s Pre-Budget Submission for funding consideration in the 2018-19 Federal Budget to be delivered in May. The Foundation is seeking CGM funding for adults most at risk and a national school’s based education program, targeting unmet need.
New Campaign – #NoMoreFear
You told us every Australian with Type 1 diabetes deserves life-saving technology and of course we agree! Even though there are so many competing interests for health funding we believe there is a compelling argument for funding CGM for all Australians with type 1 diabetes. Have you shown your support? If not please do, and remember to send it to your networks, people only need to be asked. The more people we have behind us the greater our chance of success. For those who are keen to see CGM funded for over 21’s please download our Lobby Toolbox and get involved.

Our 2nd Annual World Diabetes Day Awards
Rounding off the year was our2nd annual World Diabetes Day Awards Celebration. We received hundreds of nominations and hosted families from all over the country. It was a fabulous evening where we honoured our type 1 heroes and listened to their stories of bravery and triumph and living with what is an insidious disease. Our community reminds us every day of why we exist; together we will improve the day to day lives of Australians with type 1 diabetes because simply we cannot wait for a cure.
Giving Back to our Community
This week in the lead-up to Christmas DANII was delighted to be able to fund 20 Scholarships for 12 months for life-changing & life-saving Continuous Glucose Monitor Technology. The recipients all T1D’s who are incredibly excited and grateful to our supporters who continue to so generously giveback to this community. Additionally, DANII also fully funded 3 under-privileged and needy children this year into Insulin Pump therapy, and we continue to fund CGM Trials for T1D’s who are pregnant, hypo-unaware or simply desperate for help.
